ESTAR se usa para estados temporales, ubicación y condiciones: cómo está alguien o algo en un momento dado.
Contraste rápido: ser = identidad o definición; estar = estado o situación (temporal). No son intercambiables.
Frases muy frecuentes: estar bien/mal, estar listo, estar en + lugar, estar + gerundio (perífrasis progresiva).
Uso con participio: estar + participio indica estado resultante (ej. La puerta está cerrada).

Explicación técnica
ESTAR es copulativo: une el sujeto con un atributo (adjetivo, complemento de lugar, etc.). No describe una acción.
Subjuntivo presente: se dispara con expresiones como ojalá (que), es importante que…, etc.
Subjuntivo imperfecto: formas en -ra (en la app se muestra la variante en -se como alternativa).
Imperativo: tú «está», vosotros «estad»; usted/ustedes «esté/estén».
Perífrasis: estar + gerundio = aspecto progresivo (Estoy leyendo).
Acuerdo: con estar + participio el participio funciona como adjetivo y concuerda (cerrado/cerrada); «estado» es el participio de estar para tiempos compuestos (haber + estado).
ESTAR is copular: it links the subject to an attribute (adjective, place complement, etc.). Present subjunctive is triggered by ojalá (que), es importante que… Imperative: tú «está», vosotros «estad»; usted/ustedes «esté/estén». Periphrasis: estar + gerund = progressive aspect (Estoy leyendo). With estar + participle, the participle agrees as an adjective (cerrado/cerrada); «estado» is the past participle of estar for compound tenses.
