Ordering Food at a Restaurant
Practice verbs you'll use when dining out in Spanish-speaking countries
Scenario
You're at a restaurant in Mexico City. Practice ordering, asking questions, and expressing preferences.
Example Sentences
Quiero una mesa para dos, por favor
I want a table for two, please
💡 Tip: Use "quiero" (I want) to make requests politely. This is one of the most common verbs in restaurants.
¿Puedo ver el menú?
Can I see the menu?
💡 Tip: "Puedo" means "I can" - use it for polite requests. Notice it's irregular: poder → puedo.
Me gusta el pescado
I like the fish
💡 Tip: Gustar works backwards from English! The thing you like is the subject. "Me gusta" = "it pleases me" = "I like it".
Voy a pedir la paella
I'm going to order the paella
💡 Tip: "Voy a" + infinitive is very common for future plans. "Pedir" means "to order" or "to ask for".
